♫ I'm an adult and I haven't played my instrument since I was in school. Will lessons work for me?
Of course! We will design your lesson plan together to get you playing again!
♫ I want to play music for fun and I don't have much time to practice. Will we be a good fit?
Absolutly! Everyone lives different lives and availibility is different from person to person. I will provide you with the tools that allow you to maximize your practice time to get the most out of it while fitting with in your schedule. Music is ment to be fun and enjoyable. That being said, improvement is reflected by the time that you put into your practicing outside of lessons. So if you are limitied on practice time each week, THATS OK! All that means is the improvement process may be slower, but I’ll be right there becide you to help guide you on your journey to become the musician you want to be.
♫ I have no musical Background. Is that okay?
Thats okay! I love working with students with no musical background! We will take the process slow and I will make sure you understand everything before moving on. I have plenty of worksheets and non-worksheet excercises to help you understand the basics. We will try different learning styles to see how you best learn.
♫ I don't have rhythm, is it even worth it to try?
Nonsense! If you can walk, talk, skip, run, clap or juggle, you have rhythm! Rhythm is all around us. When you walk, you take mostly even steps. This is rhythm. Even if you have an uneven walk, this is still rhythm. Have you ever clapped for a performance? This is rhythm. Can you say ‘music’, ‘apple pie’ or ‘peanut butter’? This is rhythm! There are certain rhymic cadences all around us in everyday life. Never let anyone say you have no rhythm. Let me help you understand how it applies to music.
♫ I don't like certain types of music, do I have to play it lessons?
I create my lesson plan based on each students insterests. There are certain basics for each instrument that need to be taught to make sure you have a solid foundation, but when it comes to music selection, we can touch on many different styles of music to find what speaks to you. If you don’t like classical music? Thats ok! If you want to play a song from your favorite movie or video game? Lets do it! There is no “cookie cutter” plan you must follow. Let me help you create the music experience that fits your style.
♫ I'm a parent/guardian and I want to enroll my child in lessons but my child doesn't know what they want to play. What do I do?
It’s wonderful your child wants to play music! A huge benefit in working with me is I teach many different instruments. If you are looking at renting an instrument, we can try that instrument out for a few weeks to see if your child ‘clicks’ with it. If not, most rental places allow you to switch your instrument and we can try a different one. We can do this to find the right instrument that your child is excited for. When you book with me, your lesson time is yours. We can try as many different instruments as we need.
♫ I use to play music in the past, I want my child to play the same instrument I did. Can you teach them?
Not all instruments are for everyone. If your child is not enjoying the instrument they are playing, they wont be motivated to continue playing long term. I don’t advise forcing your child to play an instrument they may not be interested in. I am dedicated to finding what your child is passionate about. Your childs’ interest in there instrument choice is what drives their at home practice.
♫ I like your teaching outlook but you don't teach an instrument I'm interested in but I'm struggling to find a teacher to teach me/my child?
If your instrument you want to learn is not on the list that I teach (such as guitar, ukulele or drumset), I have many contacts that could be a good fit for you. Please don’t hesitate to reach out and I can help you find a teacher that works for you. I’m here to help YOU become the musician you have always wanted to be.
♫ What if we want to book with you but you don't have a time that fits our schedule?
If we are unable to find a time that works in your schedule, I can either put you on a waitlist and let you know when a time slot opens up that fits your schedule, or I could put you in touch with other teachers in the area.
♫ Who is Eligible for lessons?
Anyone who is interested in learning music! I generally stick with ages 6+ as they are more independent in their own practice time. Not to say that children younger cant learn. I started playing when I was 4 years old. If you have a child under or around this age, please reach out to me and we can discuss if we would be a good fit. I have contacts of other teachers who work more with the kinder age group. I’d be happy to help find the best fit for your child!
♫ I'm nervous........
Dont be nervous! I’m here to help you. I’m in your corner. The first lesson we will talk about your goals and what you want to come from the lessons. We will work through any struggles together as they come up. I never want a student to feel like they can only get instruction during our weekly lesson time. You can reach out to me outside of your lesson time if you have any questions. I do my best to respond to emails that same day. I’m in your corner and I will do everything I can to help you reach your goals!
